Louis Biolsi of Rolla, MO, passed away on April 17, 2024, at the age of 83.
Lou was born in Port Jefferson, NY, to Louis Biolsi and Florence (Rickett) Biolsi.
Lou earned his bachelor's and master’s degrees in chemistry at SUNY Albany, where he met his future wife Margaret in 1961, and he received his doctorate in chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Following post-doctoral work at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Brown University, he joined the faculty at the University of Missouri–Rolla where he taught and conducted research for more than 30 years. In the mid-1970s he also served as a summer fellow for NASA. Although he retired years ago, as an emeritus professor Lou continued to conduct research and present his work at academic conferences.
Lou was an avid reader, with an ability to speed read that defied logic. He loved to travel, especially to national parks where he enjoyed hiking. Rocky Mountain National Park was a particular favorite, and among his favorite cities to visit were New York City, New Orleans and San Francisco.
Lou was a loving husband and father and an adoring grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret; his three sons Kevin (Carol), David and Michael; his brothers Richard (Katherine) and Thomas (Miyako); and his three granddaughters Lauren, Megan and Cheyenne. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Florence and his daughter-in-law Tamara Chuchi Kao.
Lou very much enjoyed his many pets over the years, and any memorial contributions may be made to the Rolla Animal Shelter (www.rollacity.org/shelter-home.shtml).
