400 MHz Liquid-State NMR Training Modules
Liquid-State NMR - Basic Training for Occasional Users
- Organization
- Training Period: 1 hour
- Capacity: 2-4 Trainees (Chemistry Undergraduate Students, Graduate Students, and Faculty)
- Offered: Throughout the year, by appointment
- Training may be conducted by experienced chemistry graduate student, staff, or faculty; Final approval and account setup by Dr. Klaus Woelk or delegate.
- Content
- Learning to run basic, routine, preprogrammed 1H and 13C NMR experiments using the automated sample changer. 1H measurements include experiments with standard water solvent suppression; 13C measurements include 1H coupled and 1H decoupled experiments. Scheduling times for access of the instrument through ICON-NMR automation, setting up a user account, appropriate sample preparation and care, and protecting the instrument is covered.
Liquid-State NMR - General Training
- Organization
- Training Period: 2 hours (1 hour, if Basic Training already completed)
- Capacity: 1-2 Trainees (Undergraduate Research Assistants, GTAs of teaching labs with NMR components, Graduate Students, and Faculty)
- Offered: Throughout the year, by appointment
- Training may be conducted by experienced chemistry graduate student, staff, or faculty. Final approval and account setup by Dr. Klaus Woelk or delegate.
- Content
- Basics Training for Occasional Users is amended by instruction for programming and scheduling nighttime experiment that may last longer than 3 hours; instruction in two-dimensional composite experiments such as COSY, HETCOR, etc. with automated spectral window selection in F2 dimension for optimizing spectral resolution and experiment time demands; instruction in dual-channel hetero nuclei investigations, such as coupled and decoupled 19F, 31P, and 15N NMR experiments.
Liquid-State NMR - Training for Special Research Needs. Prerequisite: General Training; in addition, before this training, students will have to show an understanding of the significance and meaningfulness of the desired, specialized NMR data.
- Organization
- Training Period: Typically 1 hour for each specialized kind of experimentation, maybe longer depending on its complexity.
- Capacity: Throughout the year, by appointment
- Training must be scheduled with Dr. Klaus Woelk, training may be conducted by delegate
- Content
- Learning to safely conduct specialized experiments that support the mission or progress of an active research project; instruction of how to optimize scheduling and minimizing interference with scheduled experiments from regular and occasional users.
